15 mm Baguette Iced Cuban Link Chain

A 15 mm Miami Cuban link chain set with channel-set baguette-cut cubic zirconia, finished in a bright white plating and closed with a pavé box clasp. It comes in one length, at 22 inches.

Baguette rather than round

Almost every iced Cuban chain uses small round stones. This one uses baguettes: narrow rectangular step-cut stones, set side by side in channels that run the length of each link. The look is different at any distance. Up close the links read as neat rows of bars rather than a field of dots; from across a room they flash in long, clean strokes instead of a shimmer. It is sharper and more architectural, and it looks more like fine jewellery than most iced pieces do.

A Miami Cuban lies flat in a single plane, so the links hold their faces forward as the chain moves. With baguettes that matters, because a step-cut stone returns light along its length and only fires when it is pointed the right way.

The clasp and how it sits

The closure is a rectangular box clasp, its face pavé-set to match the chain, with a hidden tongue that clicks home. Worn with the clasp at the back the chain reads as an unbroken loop; turned forward it passes as one more iced link.

At 22 inches it sits at the top of the chest. At 15 mm it is wide enough to be the centre of an outfit but light enough to wear all day, the middle ground between our 10 mm chain and the 20 mm and wider pieces.

Styling and when to wear it

This is the iced Cuban for someone who wants the statement without the bulk. It carries a plain dark tee or an open shirt on its own, and it does not want a pendant. The bright white finish sits in the same register as steel watches and white-gold rings.

It suits men and women. Because baguettes flash rather than sparkle, it also photographs cleanly, with defined lines of light instead of glare.

About the stones

The stones are cubic zirconia, cut as step-cut baguettes rather than round brilliants and selected for a colourless white grade rather than the grey cast of cheaper stone. Cubic zirconia scores 8 to 8.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, hard enough to hold a crisp polish through everyday wear.

A baguette does not sparkle the way a round brilliant does. Its long parallel facets return light in broad, clean flashes, so the chain reads as bars of light rather than a shimmer, sharper and more architectural at a distance. Cubic zirconia disperses light more strongly than diamond does, roughly 0.060 against diamond's 0.044, so those flashes carry colour as well as brightness.

Care

The plating gives a bright surface that resists tarnishing and keeps its shine with very little effort.

Store your jewellery dry and away from perfume and household cleaners, and a soft polishing cloth will bring the finish straight back. Slipping pieces off before you swim keeps them looking their best.
