What this is, plainly

This is gold-plated stainless steel, not solid gold. The plating here is PVD rather than conventional dip plating — the gold is bonded to the steel under vacuum rather than deposited in a bath, which is why it stands up to showers and sweat rather than wearing at the edges first.

How it sits, and layering

At 16 inches it sits at the base of the neck, just above the collarbone; the extender takes it to 18 inches, which drops it to the collarbone itself. That leaves clear room for a longer pendant at 20 inches or more underneath, so the two do not compete or catch on each other.

Is this real gold? It is real 18K gold applied as PVD plating over stainless steel, not solid gold throughout.

What is PVD plating? Physical vapour deposition bonds the gold to the base metal under vacuum. It produces a harder, better-adhered finish than standard dip plating, which is why it holds up to daily wear.

Will it tarnish or turn my skin green? No. Stainless steel does not tarnish the way silver does, and the piece is nickel-free, so there is no copper or brass to mark skin.

Can I shower or swim in it? Yes. It is waterproof and sweat-proof and is intended to be left on.

Is the length adjustable? Yes. The 2 inch extender lets it be worn anywhere between 16 and 18 inches.

Caring for it

No routine needed for daily wear. If the shine dulls, buff it with a soft dry cloth. Avoid abrasive polishes and cleaners containing bleach, and take it off before using undiluted chlorine or hot tubs — not because it will fail immediately, but because concentrated chemicals shorten the life of any plated finish.
