Iced Out Chains — Cuban, Baguette and Tennis, 3 mm to 24 mm

Iced means set edge to edge, with no bare metal showing along the chain. Everything on this page is a necklace built to be seen over a t-shirt or framed by an open collar: Miami Cuban links from 10 mm to 24 mm wide, a channel-set baguette Cuban, a cluster tennis chain and a single-row tennis necklace.

The stones are cubic zirconia, selected for a colourless white grade, in a bright white plating or an 18K gold tone. We say cubic zirconia plainly, because that is what it is. Orders ship from Ontario to the United States and Canada with duties prepaid.

About this collection

Iced out chains, set edge to edge

An iced chain is one where the stones do the talking. Every visible face of every link is pavé-set, so the chain reads as a continuous band of light rather than a run of metal with a few stones on it. On this page that means a 10 mm Miami Cuban, a 15 mm baguette Cuban, a 20 mm Cuban, a 22 mm Cuban with a flip-buckle clasp and a 24 mm collar-width Cuban, alongside a cluster tennis chain, a single-row tennis necklace and an 18K gold plated stainless steel Cuban with an iced lock, where only the clasp carries stones.

Which width: 10, 15, 20, 22 or 24 mm

Most Cuban chains sold anywhere sit between 8 and 12 mm, so our 10 mm is the everyday width. It layers under a collar, clears a jacket zip and still shows a full line of stone. From 15 mm upward the chain stops being an accessory and becomes the centre of the outfit: 15 mm is the middle ground that can still be worn all day, 20 mm reads as a broad band from across a room, 22 mm adds a curved flip buckle built for the extra weight, and 24 mm sits on the collarbone as a collar. If you are choosing between two widths, take the narrower one for daily wear and the wider one if the chain is the point of the look. Our guide to how thick a Miami Cuban should be walks through the same decision on the wrist.

Cuban, baguette, three-row and tennis

The round-brilliant micro-pavé Cubans are the classic iced look: hundreds of small round stones packed across each link. The baguette Cuban swaps them for channel-set rectangular stones, which gives a cleaner, more architectural glitter and fewer prongs to catch on fabric. The tennis chains are a different construction entirely: a single row of round stones, or cushion-shaped halo stations, joined edge to edge so the line stays unbroken from clasp to clasp. Tennis chains sit closer to the neck and wear well under a shirt; the wide Cubans are made to be seen.

Clasps that hold the weight

A 20 mm or 24 mm iced chain is heavy, and the clasp is where a cheap chain fails. Ours close with a rectangular box clasp whose face is pavé-set in the same pattern as the links, with a hidden tongue that clicks home and a security latch inside as a second point of hold. The 22 mm chain uses a hinged flip buckle instead, curved to follow the arc of the links, which spreads the load across the hinge rather than a single tongue. Worn with the clasp at the back, every chain here reads as an unbroken loop; turned to the front, the clasp passes as one more iced link.

Cubic zirconia, plainly

Every chain on this page is set with cubic zirconia on a plated base; the 18K gold plated Cuban is stainless steel underneath. Cubic zirconia scores 8 to 8.5 on the Mohs scale and disperses light more strongly than diamond does, which is why a well-cut colourless stone throws flashes of colour you can read at a distance. It is not moissanite and it is not diamond, and we never label it as either. If you want moissanite, our moissanite Miami Cuban link bracelet is VVS1 moissanite on 925 sterling silver, and the rest of our moissanite jewellery is listed separately. The wider iced out collection holds the matching bracelets.

Questions people ask

Neither. Every chain in this collection is set with cubic zirconia on a plated base metal, and the 18K gold plated Cuban is stainless steel underneath. We never call cubic zirconia moissanite or diamond. Our moissanite pieces, including the VVS1 moissanite Miami Cuban bracelet on 925 silver, are listed under moissanite jewellery.

10 mm is the everyday width that layers under a collar. 15 mm is the middle ground you can still wear all day. 20, 22 and 24 mm are statement widths that read as a band or collar from across a room; choose those when the chain is the centre of the outfit.

The 10 mm Cuban and the 18K gold plated Cuban come in 20 and 22 inches. The 15, 20, 22 and 24 mm Cubans come in 22 inches, which sits at the top of the chest. The cluster tennis chain is 20 inches, and the single-row tennis necklace is offered in several lengths.

All plating wears with friction and chemicals over time. Keep chains away from perfume, hairspray, chlorine and salt water, put them on last, and wipe them with a soft dry cloth after wear. Stored dry and apart from other jewellery, the finish lasts far longer.
