22 mm Iced Cuban Link Chain – Curved Flip Clasp

A 22 mm Miami Cuban link chain, fully micro-pavé set in cubic zirconia and finished in a bright white plating, closed with a curved flip-buckle clasp shaped to follow the line of the links. It comes in one length, at 22 inches.

The flip-buckle clasp

The closure is what sets this chain apart. Instead of a straight box clasp, it uses a hinged buckle that folds over and locks flat, and the buckle is curved to match the arc of the links on either side of it. Its face is pavé-set in the same pattern as the chain, so from the front the clasp reads as part of the chain rather than a break in it. Worn at the front it is a deliberate centrepiece; worn at the back it disappears.

A flip buckle also handles weight well. It closes with a positive snap and holds along its whole length rather than at a single tongue, which is what you want on a chain this size.

What 22 mm actually looks like

Most Cuban chains sit between 8 and 12 mm. At 22 mm this one sits on the collarbone as a broad band, wide enough for each link to read on its own from across a room. The links are rounded and domed, uniform from end to end, and every one is covered in tidy rows of small stones set flush into the metal.

Because a Miami Cuban lies flat in a single plane, the link faces stay pointed forward as the chain moves, which is what keeps a piece this wide firing along its whole length. At 22 inches it sits at the top of the chest with room for the links to lie flat.

Styling and when to wear it

A 22 mm iced chain is a single-piece statement. It does not layer and it does not want company at the neck. Give it a plain crew neck or an open collar and let the width do the work.

The bright white finish holds the same register as steel and white-gold, so a watch or a ring in a cool tone ties in naturally. It suits men and women, and it photographs exceptionally well.

About the stones

The stones are cubic zirconia, cut as round brilliants and selected for a colourless white grade rather than the grey cast of cheaper stone. Cubic zirconia scores 8 to 8.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, hard enough to hold a crisp polish through everyday wear.

It disperses light more strongly than diamond does, roughly 0.060 against diamond's 0.044, which is why a well-cut cubic zirconia throws bright flashes of colour that catch the eye from across a room. That fire is what makes an iced piece read from a distance.

Care

The plating gives a bright surface that resists tarnishing and keeps its shine with very little effort.

Store your jewellery dry and away from perfume and household cleaners, and a soft polishing cloth will bring the finish straight back. Slipping pieces off before you swim keeps them looking their best.
